CIDCO finally finalizes plan for smart city in Navi Mumbai

The City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will announce on Friday a project to develop the state’s first smart city in Navi Mumbai. Officials said that though it was not part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plan for 100 smart cities, it would be the first such project announced in the country. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will make the announcement for smart city ‘Navi Mumbai South’.
“This will be the launch of the first smart city in the country. CIDCO will finance the project,” said Sanjay Bhatia, managing director of CIDCO.
Bhatia said that Fadnavis would also announce 88 other projects at Friday’s event, which will be attended by municipal commissioners of the 100 smart cities proposed under the prime minister’s plan. Navi Mumbai is seeing a major infrastructure push. It will be home to the new international airport and four metro corridors. Officials have also proposed extending the Palm Beach Road from Ghansoli to Airoli. CIDCO is also constructing two heliports. The city planning authority plans to spend Rs 110 crore to set up a CCTV camera network in Navi Mumbai South.
